The installations by theater director and video artist Ho Tzu Nyen are opulent, visually stunning works. Countless references from Eastern and Western literature, art and music are combined with multi-layered sound collages to create an enigmatic work that reveals new layers of meaning to the viewer at every level of perception. His central theme is the search for one or rather several cultural identities of Southeast Asia, which is written and overwritten by so many languages, cultures and influences that it can hardly be reduced to a historical core.
The exhibition G for Gong provides an insight into this grandiose world of images and concepts that the artist has built up over the last decade and a half.
