In her urban intervention and performance, Flo Kasearu playfully explores the question of safety and order in the city, spreading creative chaos and drawing attention to repressive structures—in a fleeting and poetic way.
In most places around the world, public space is divided into various security zones. It is monitored not only by the police but also by various security firms.
Flo Kasearu’s work responds to this situation with a performative journey through the streets of Oldenburg.
Dressed in uniforms with exaggerated headgear, several performers sow productive disorder in the city they patrol, blending absurdity with reality and subverting the image of law enforcement.
The performance begins at 4:00 p.m. at the exhibition and will then move to the city center.
The original edition of the performance was commissioned by Steirischer Herbst ’21.
Flo Kasearu studied painting and art at the Estonian Academy of Arts as well as in Rebecca Horn’s multimedia studio at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 2013, she opened her own house museum in Tallinn. Kasearu has participated in the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea and the Performa Festival in New York and has received several awards, including the Estonian State Prize for Culture (2021). In addition to private collections, her works can be found at the Estonian Art Museum, the Tartu Art Museum, Kiasma, the European Central Bank, and the Flo Kasearu House Museum.
