Fear mongering does not apply. Intellectuals in the trap of extremist populism
We invite you: To a conflict-ready exchange with witnesses of another time, contributions from an international context (Hungary, Austria, Germany), analyses from interdisciplinary perspectives and literary poetic food for thought.
The starting point is the current media, political, cultural and everyday treatment of flight and migration in Europe. This is clearly characterized by a willingness to adopt ways of thinking and acting that refer to racist or even “human capitalist” exclusionary patterns of interpretation and judgement, flanked by now diverse discourses of fear.
The events will focus less on the feeling of fear and more on the subtle discursive creation of further fears. At the same time, we ask:
How do dominant-culture discourse logics subtly, latently and manifestly shape our emotional worlds, ways of thinking and forms of action? What could a perspective and practice that advocates humane and fairer conditions look like? And what can we do politically, philosophically, theologically and pedagogically?
