Media scientists predict that the 21st century will be the century of computer games, just as film and pop music shaped the popular culture of the western world in the 20th century and the novel in the 19th century. With the  MusicGames sing star or guitar hero I – III, the games industry has landed a major coup. It’s all about being a musician, sound, fun, like-minded people, distraction and concentration, competition, levels, recognition and challenges to skill and perfection – just play. A game – even online – can easily last five hours or more due to the flow effects that occur! How happy parents, music teachers or instrumental teachers would be if their children/students practiced the piano or guitar with the same intensity and perseverance! But that’s what the  MusicGames do not. They are dominated by positive emotions, not the hardships of a mostly externally determined competitive pressure – as is the case with “Jugend musiziert”, a nationwide music competition.
