House Rules of the City of Oldenburg for the House of Media Art

Welcome to our facility! We want to make your visit as pleasant and safe as possible. Therefore, by entering the building, you agree to the following house rules:

Coat Check

For safety reasons, coats, jackets, capes, backpacks, large bags, camera cases, umbrellas, etc., must be checked at the coat check before visiting our exhibitions. Small bags (approximately A4 size) may be brought into the exhibition spaces. In case of doubt, the supervisory staff will decide. Lockers and a coat check are available free of charge for storage. We reserve the right to charge a fee for lost locker keys and/or emergency opening of the locker. We assume no liability for valuables.

Conduct in the Building

Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout our building. The same applies to e-cigarettes and vapes. The Non-Smoker Protection Act applies.

Eating or drinking is generally not permitted in our exhibition spaces, unless food is offered by staff, such as at openings. Persons who are visibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be denied entry or excluded from the event and must then leave the event or exhibition venue.

The following items are prohibited:

1.    Weapons, pepper spray, knives, or similar items

2.    Drugs

3.    Fireworks, rockets, Bengal lights, smoke powder, flares, sparklers, and other pyrotechnic items

4.    Animals (exception: service and assistance dogs, provided a valid ID can be presented)

5.    Aerosol cans, corrosive or staining substances, and pressurized containers for highly flammable or harmful gases. Exceptions to this are standard pocket lighters and hairspray.

All visitors are prohibited from infringing upon human freedom and dignity (Art. 1 of the Basic Law) through words, writing, or gestures. Discriminatory remarks regarding origin, disability, impairment, (physical) characteristics, gender, sexual orientation, age, or religious beliefs are prohibited, as are all forms of sexual harassment. The use, display, or wearing of prohibited and criminal symbols, signs, or slogans is also not permitted.

Children under the age of 12 are permitted to visit exhibitions and events only when accompanied by an adult. Teachers, group leaders, and legal guardians are responsible for ensuring that the children and adolescents in their care behave appropriately. Additional age restrictions for individual events or exhibitions are possible and will be posted at the entrances. The provisions of the Youth Protection Act apply.

The use of inline skates, skateboards, balance bikes, scooters, etc., is generally not permitted in our facilities.

Out of consideration for other visitors, please avoid making noise and do not make phone calls in the event and exhibition spaces. Cell phones must be set to silent mode at the very least before the start of an event.

Supervisory staff may refuse to allow a stroller into the exhibition rooms if the layout of the exhibition does not permit strollers or if the visitors in question are not using the strollers exclusively to transport small children.

Instructions from Security Staff

The City of Oldenburg exercises its right of ownership over the House of Media Art with respect to all visitors and third parties through its own employees and representatives. Their instructions must be followed without exception. Violations or failure to comply with instructions may result in a ban from the premises. Violations of a ban from the premises may result in criminal charges for trespassing. In such cases, there is no entitlement to a refund of the admission fee.

To safeguard property, we are authorized to conduct inspections in cases of suspicion. You must then present any items you are carrying, as well as the contents of bags and other containers.

For security reasons, the closure of rooms, buildings, and open areas, as well as their evacuation, may be ordered. All persons present in the House of Media Art must comply with such requests immediately and leave the premises immediately upon a threat of evacuation.

Photography and Filming

Right to one’s own image: By entering the venue, those who are recognizable in such recordings consent to their use for reporting on the event or exhibition, and no claims may be asserted against the Haus für Medienkunst Oldenburg in this regard.

Photography and filming for commercial purposes are not permitted anywhere inside the building or in the outdoor areas. Exceptions require special written permission from the museum’s press office, which you must present to the staff on duty if requested.

Photography and filming of our exhibitions for private purposes is permitted; however, only without flash, tripods, or lamps. Photography and filming of museum staff is not permitted. For events, prior consent from the event management must be obtained, even for private recordings. Compliance with copyright law is the responsibility of those taking photographs or filming.

Liability

Visitors are liable for any damage caused by their conduct. The obligation to reimburse costs also applies in the event of intentional or negligent triggering of alarm systems.
